Cobalt and White Lamp
Part of the Cobalt on White design family, this lamp explores the relationship between geometric precision and gestural mark-making. The white stoneware base (10.5" × 5" × 5") is punctured with carefully placed openings - circles, arcs, lines, cruciforms - that read as signs floating across a white field.
Each opening is framed with a hand-drawn cobalt line applied with a Chinese calligraphy brush, creating a dialogue between the sharp geometry of the cut forms and the fluid, human quality of the brushwork. The openings dance across all four surfaces, some engaging the corners where planes meet, activating the entire base as a composition.
When the interior light illuminates, the geometric openings glow bright white against the white-glazed surface, while the cobalt lines provide subtle definition and depth. The effect shifts dramatically between day and night - a sculptural object by day, a light composition after dark.
Two independent light sources create versatile ambiance: a WiFi-controlled, dimmable, color-tunable G9 bulb illuminates the base from within, while a standard E26 socket on top accommodates your choice of shade and bulb for directed task lighting.
