The transformation of this vase, starts with a rectangular solid slip-cast form and then continues with a knife cutting twelve precise openings near the top of the rectangular ceramic form. But ultimately the fingers complete what the blade started. This shift from tool to touch creates openings with organic irregularity, their edges flowing naturally rather than following rigid lines.

The pattern arranges these holes to accommodate the maximum number of tulip stems, but the hand-finished quality gives them something more. The fluid openings evoke Art Nouveau architecture—that movement which found beauty in combining flowing, natural forms with solid, geometric foundations.

The celadon glaze flows down from the perforated crown, its organic patterns enhanced by iron oxide lines that define each flowing gesture. The decoration grows from the form itself rather than being applied as an afterthought.

When filled with tulips, the vase works with the flower's natural inclination to droop and bend. Rather than fighting this tendency, the design embraces it, turning what others might see as wilting into something graceful. The rectangular foundation anchors this organic display, creating a dialogue between the architectural and the botanical that captures the Art Nouveau spirit—where structure serves nature, and nature finds its most beautiful expression within thoughtful constraints.
