The concept of reversal becomes both literal and philosophical in this companion piece. Where that piece used iron oxide lines to define flowing forms, this one employs mishima inlay—dark clay pressed into carved lines that create permanent boundaries in the ceramic surface.
Fourteen holes arranged in two tiers accommodate tulip stems with the same hand-finished irregularity, but the visual effect transforms completely. The Mishima lines create delicate drawings that seem to grow from within the clay body itself.
