A square-plan hollow brick, cut with asymmetrical openings and finished with cobalt oxide painted freehand over a white ground. The piece works within the old tradition of cobalt-on-white ceramics, but pushes it toward a modern sensibility — the hand-painted decoration set against openings that don't mirror or repeat, rather than the balanced patterning the tradition usually implies.
Slip-cast, then cut and assembled by hand, then painted. An E26 socket on top holds the shade light; a G9 socket sits inside the base.
This piece is currently one of a kind but could be made again in small lots.
